Imphal, October 04 2023:
Public protest condemning the cold blooded murder of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit continued at Tera Keithel today.
The sit-in demonstration, organised by seven clubs under Patsoi Assembly Constituency demanded arrest of all perpetrators involved in the murder of the two missing students and capital punishment to all culprits found guilty.
The protesters demanded the Government and the investigating agency (CBI) to trace and recover the bodies of the two students at the earliest.
One of the protesters, Khuraijam Thasana said the two innocent students were mercilessly murdered by armed Kuki militants.
The CBI has so far arrested four.
All the remaining perpetrators who were involved in the heinous crime should be arrested at the earliest, she said.
The bodies of the two students must be recovered for swift completion of the investigation and handed them over to the families for their last rites, she said.
It may be noted that the two students went missing on July 6 and they were suspectedly murdered on July 8 by armed Kuki men in their captivity, as per two photographs that surfaced on social media on September 25 .
During the sit-in demonstration, the protesters raised slogans against "narco-terrorists" for waging war against Meiteis and appealed to the Central Government to scrap the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact signed with Kuki militants.
The protesters asserted that peace will automatically return once Kuki militants are controlled and stopped from carrying out unprovoked attacks on the Meiteis.
They also urged the Centre and the State Government to root out poppy cultivation and narco-terrorists from the soil of Manipur.
More than 170 persons have been killed since May 3 .
