Candlelight vigil, protest demand justice

Denouncing the horrific & senseless killing of two innocent students, Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit, Meira Paibis today staged a sit-in protest at Kangmong Manglak Crossing Community Hall.
During the sit-in, Meira Paibis from nine villages of Kamong area along with youths of four local clubs paid floral tributes to the photographs of 58 martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the cause of the motherland in the ongoing conflict, said Kangmong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup in a release.
Members of AKCCC, a conglomerate of KYWC, NCK, LUVA and KLYGC also took part in the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, All Manipur Nupi Marup president Maisnam ongbi Sakhi questioned the failure of the Government to end the conflict and restore peace in the State even after 5 months.
Prominent personalities including leaders of the Organising Committee of Public Assembly for Restoration of Peace in Manipur also spoke at the sit-in.
Later, the protesters shouted various slogans such as, "Punish culprits involved in the brutal murder of students", "End narco-terrorism", "Safeguard integrity of Manipur", etc.
Besides, students and teachers of Delta Advance School (DAS) have also vehemently condemned the brutal killing of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit.
Students and teachers of DAS also demanded the Government to take necessary steps to hand over the bodies of the two students to their families so that they may conduct their last rites, said DAS in a release.
Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil was held in the premises of Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School, Imphal on Wednesday as tribute to the departed souls of the two students, Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam, a students of the school and Phijam Hemanjit.
Teaching, non-teaching staff and members of the Students' Union of the school took part in the vigil, said a release issued by T.G.Hr Sec School.
At the vigil, the participants urged the authorities concerned to handover the dead bodies to their respective families at the earliest, give exemplary punishment to the culprits as per law of the land, and immediately stop the use of excessive force by the law enforcing agencies against the unarmed agitating students.
