CS, SC-appointed committee members visit Kangpokpi

Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi along with the Supreme Court-appointed three-member committee headed by former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal visited Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.
The committee also includes former Bombay High Court Judge Shalini Phansalkar Joshi and former Delhi High Court Judge Asha Menon.
Supreme Court appointed the three member committee to oversee relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding measures in Manipur.
The Chief Secretary and the three committee members were welcomed by officials of the district administration led by Kangpokpi DC Mahesh Chaudhari at the DC Office Complex.
Later, the team members met with the DLOs in the conference hall and had a thorough discussion on the prevailing situation, other requirements and issues faced in the district.
Gita Mittal expressed solidarity with all Indians during these challenging times, emphasising the importance of ensuring the well-being and essentials for those forced to leave their homes and villages.
She stressed the critical need for the government to secure lives and provide essential requirements such as shelter, food, healthcare, education, and a dignified living environment for the affected individuals and families.
Mittal highlighted the efforts already made in terms of relief, education for children, and ongoing initiatives to create job opportunities and sustainable source's of income for the affected population.
"As of now, it is not possible to say when or hoW soon it will be, but it will definitely happen, and you cannot lose hope for the future," she added.
Mittal, who heads the committee, announced the initiation of a chopper service from Kangpokpi to Dimapur to facilitate medical treatment for patients in urgent need.
She mentioned the setup of prefabricated homes to offer families privacy and stated that upon returning to their villages from the relief camps, the state government will construct their permanent homes.
This initiative is fully supported financially by the central government.
After the meeting, the team along with the officials of the district administration visited two relief centres - Keithelmanbi High School and DIET Centre, Leikop under Champhai sub-division and interacted with the people taking shelters in these centres, which house more than 500 inmates each.
The team also inspected the under-construction prefabricated houses at Keithelmanbi, where more than 150 houses are being set up.
The committee members also distributed relief items to the inmates at the relief centres.
