ATSUM accuses MU of discriminating Kuki students

While contending that only 10 out of 76 students of Kuki-Zo community from Rayburn College were deemed' to have passed, a student given score of minus two in Elective English and many students received a score of zero in certain papers despite the subject having both theory and practical components in the semester examination conducted by Manipur University, All Tribal students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has accused tjie University for open discrimination towards the tribal students.
In a release, ATSUM education secretary Kaikho Hopeson Mao contended that the university deliberately failed the tribal students based on their ethnicity.
As the students who were aghast at the outcome of the exam results made verbal complaints to the controller of examinations of the university, an updated result was released within a span of 2-3 hours, Mao informed, while pointing out that in the revised result number of students who passed the exam shot up from 10 to 41 .
Never in the history of any university result has been manipulated and declared in this way, the secretary stated, adding that it clearly shows that marks and results have arbitrarily being fixed with malice.
"This is highly condemnable and needs to be investigated thoroughly.
Necessary arrangement has to be made for the Kuki-Zo tribal students by the authority concerned so that they can pursue studies without discrimination and malice," he demanded.
