Skill development programme launched to generate self-employment

Imphal, July 18 2023: A team from College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, Imphal have launched a two-day skill development programme for the inmates of Phayeng Ching Khunou relief camp today.

According to a statement issued by Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, College of Agriculture, the team comprised of faculties and scientists from the College.

Under the leadership of Professor Indira Sarangthem, the team initiated the skill development programme with a view to generate self-support skills through short term vegetable/spice cultivation, preparation of nursery beds and grafting of fruits/flowers.

The statement added that adoption of these skills will help to empower the inmates financially as well as enhance the nutritional level of the inmates especially the women and children during these challenging times.

Seeds of coriander, cowpea, seedlings of brinjal, tomato and king chilli were provided to the relief camp to start off the self-support activities.

Skills on stem cutting propagation of flowers like chrysanthemum, rose and china rose were imparted to the inmates.

In addition to this, procedures on mushroom cultivation were also demonstrated.
