Book the culprits: Farmer on torching paddy stacks

Saikhom Thaba has appealed to the State Government to apprehend the unknown culprits responsible for setting their paddy stacks ablaze on the intervening night of November 15 and 16 .
Reportedly, the paddy field in question measuring around one 'sangam' is located at Khangabok Part III Angom Loukol and cultivated by Saikhom Thaba's husband Saikhom Itomcha Singh (57) s/o (L) S Gourachand Singh of Khangabok Part III Makha Leikai as a tenant farmer.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Saikhom Thaba stated that the family had overcome many hardships posed by lack of adequate irrigation and fertilisers in order to cultivate the paddy field.
However, so close to harvesting, they found their paddy stacks razed when they went to gather them yesterday afternoon, she shared.
She expressed strong discontent over the merciless act of turning their hard work into ashes over the course of one night and called upon Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other relevant officials to look into the matter and apprehend the responsible party.
Kh Rajmohan, former Member, Khangabok Zilla Parishad also denounced the reprehensible act and pointed' out that recently there has been an uptick in paddy related arson cases in the area.
He called the act 'annalistic' in nature and made an appeal to put a halt to such deplorable acts.
Notably, a team led by Thoubal SP and OC inspected the paddy field in question and Thoubal PS registered a case in this connection.
