Imphal, November 18 2022:
While stating that the gradual loss of language is a sign of the dying culture and identity of a community Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (CoHSEM) chairman Dr Ch Sarat has urged the young generation to work hard for promoting native language as much as possible.
Speaking at the Annual Day function of Brilliance School, Malom Tulihal Makha on Friday in the presence of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Dr Sarat opined that parents/ guardians sending off their children from a young age to study outside the state as a trend is one of the factors for the children forgetting their origins and filial piety.
If one does not speak English, he/she is regarded to be uneducated.
This is also affecting the state's culture and identity, he added.
However, the chairman expressed belief that once the National Education Policy is successfully implemented, there will be some positive changes.
Thus, he stressed the need for the students to study hard, while keeping in mind the welfare of the society.
As part of the function, Sanaleibak staff reporter Maibam Kennedy, a former student of the school, who was recently awarded the State Journalist award 2022 by DIPR, was honoured with simple gifts.
Winners of the various events held as part of the Sports and Literary Meet of the school, conducted on November 14, were also feted.
