Imphal, November 18 2022:
Keirao Constituency MLA cum Chairman of Planning and Development Authority (PDA) Lourembam Rameshwar donated 20 bags of food grain each to two farmers from Khangabok whose paddy stacks kept for threshing were burnt by unknown miscreants recently.
The two farmers are Moirangthem Nabachandra (51) of Khangabok Awang Maning Leikai and Saikhom Itomcha (58) of Khangabok Part III Makha Leikai.
The MLA went to the residences of the two farmers along with the volunteers of Salaicha Pibarel Punshi Marup (SPPM) today and donated the bags of food grains.
Speaking to media persons, Rameshwar continued that he informed Chief Minister N Biren Singh about the misfortune as soon as he heard the news of paddy stacks being burnt by miscreants to extend some sort of assistance to the victims.
Saying that the incident was truly unfortunate, the MLA asserted that only people who lack empathy for fellow human beings can carry out such wrongs.
The MLA further maintained that the donation was made from the contributions of SPPM members.
The Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren is making all possible efforts to address the grievances of the people, he added.
To a query, the MLA responded that the Chief Minister had already directed the authority concerned to find out every perpetrator who torched the paddy stacks.
"Though the incident has brought misfortune to the two farmers, the role taken by the media in broadcasting the news to the public was laudable," he said.
Later, the MLA handed out cash assistance to the two farmers, while the members of SPPM followed suit.
Reportedly, the paddy stacks of Nabachandra kept at a paddy field near Thoubal District Hospital were found destroyed in the early hours of November 9.M Bina, wife of Nabachandra, expressed suspicion that the paddy stacks might have been torched under the direction of a particular woman who resides near the paddy field as there was an instance of spraying insecticide earlier too.
The paddy stacks of Itomcha hoarded at a field at Khangabok Angom, on the other hand, were found only in ashes on November 16 .
