JAC to ban road expansion work

Imphal, November 18 2022:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Package 4A, 5A and 5B of National Highway Expansion (Imphal-Kohima) in Kangpokpi and Imphal West district has cautioned of banning the ongoing road expansion work if the government fails to start the arbitration process within December 30.In a release, the JAC informed that a meeting held at Tendongyang on Friday resolved to ban the ongoing road expansion work and move ahead with the preparation for other intense democratic agitations, like restriction of vehicular traffic movement, etc., if the government ignores the demand start the arbitration process.
The meeting also made it clear that the government should be held responsible for any eventuality, the release conveyed while mentioning that the nomination of the arbitrator by the state government on October 16, 2021 has been rejected by the centre on the criteria that the nominee is a retired IAS Officer.
Later, the state government nominated of Art and Culture commissioner M Joy Singh on June 1 which the centre approved.
Repeated approaches had been made by the representative of all the land owners for the arbitration process, but in vain, the release informed, while adding that the representative of the effected land owners may be compelled to resort to agitations destabilise law and order situation in the state if there is no positive response from the government.
