Imphal, April 28 2024:
NCERT, New Delhi has committed a gross blunder by attributing Mukna Kangjei, a well known and popular indigenous game of Manipur to Mizoram.
"Learning Through Traditional Games", a textbook published by SCERT, New Delhi under NCERT, New Delhi in 2023-24 claims that Mukna Kangjei is an indigenous game of Mizoram, according to the Education(S) Department Physical Education Teachers' Association, Imphal.
The 88-page textbook primarily attempts to identify and describe indigenous games of different States, said a press release issued by the association.
Indigenous games which originated from the 32 States of the country are listed and described in the textbook.
On page 24, there is a heading which reads "MizoramMukna Kangjei" .
As such, there is an urgent need for the State's Education Department, SCERT, the Education Minister, the Chief Minister and civil society organisations to look into the matter and make necessary intervention to correct the blunder, it said.
The association has also written to both State Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi and NCERT New Delhi to acknowledge the blunder and make necessary corrections immediately, it added.
