83rd Nupi Lan Memorial Day : Historic movement of Manipuri women commemorated

The 83rd Nupi Lan Memorial Day was observed widely across the State to commemorate the valiant Manipuri women who fought against the then mighty Britishers.
Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha State Unit observed the 83rd Nupi Lan day at its office located at Nityaipat Chuthek today.
The event was attended by Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA Soraisam Kebi; BJP Mahila Morcha State unit president L Lotika; BJP Mahila Morcha in-charge T Mina and many eminent party members among others.
Speaking as the chief guest, S Kebi while hailing the bravery and strength of the then Manipuri women who fought against the might Britishers, appealed to all to follow the footsteps of such courageous women to ensure that their legacy is carried forth in future generations.

To mark the observation of 83rd Nupi Lan Day, Women Association for Socio-economic Development organised a State level Open Recitation Competition at Manipur Press Club today.
HERICOUN president Longjam Ratan graced the programme as the chief guest while Women Association for Socio-economic Development president RK Tharaksana and All Manipur Guardians Organization general secretary, Sougrakpam Sumati attended as the president and special guest respectively.
The competition was conducted with the aim to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the young students and youths and to safeguard the cultural and indigenous traditions of the State.
The 83rd Nupi Lan Day was observed at Khumbong Part 2 Laingam Khul today along with the conduct of a Nupi Lan memorial run organised by the All Manipur Democratic Women's Association (AMDWA), Khumbong Area Committee.
Imphal West Zila Parishad Upa Adhakshya Laishram Boby Devi; AMDWA president Chanambam Sundari; Imphal West Zila Parishad Member Thingujam Nilamani Singh; Oriental College Associate Professor G Ranita and Ngairangbam Gram Panchayat Member Konthoujam Jina Devi graced the event as the presidium members, said a press note by AMDWA.
During the occasion, the dignitaries lauded the eminent contributions made by the valiant Manipuri women for the protection of rights of the indigenous people by waging war against the powerful Bristish imperialists.
They appealed to all especially young women to uphold the significance of Nupi Lan as a mark of honour to the brave Manipuri women of Nupi Lan and to trace the path laid by them.
The winners of the Nupi Lan memorial run were honoured with prizes and gifts as a part of the programme.
Later in the evening, the Nupi Lan Memorial complex was lit up by the members of Nupilal Memorial Association Manipur , Tera Keithel as mark of respect to then valiant Manipuri women.
It may be noted that the 83rd Nupi Lan Memorial Day was also commemorated in the neighbouring States as well.
Manipuri Women Association Assam (MWAA), Hojai and UMAA Handloom Committee, Hojai District jointly observed the day at Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Bhavan, Hojai today.
The programme was attended by Lourembam Rameshwar Meetei, Planning and Development Authority, Manipur Chairman and Keirao AC MLA; Ramkrishna Ghosh, MLA of Langka AC (Assam); MWAA Hojai president M Choubihal; Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur president L Memchoubi and All Manipur Women Voluntary Association president, Y Kunjarani Chanu and UMAA Handloom Committee president Ch Indira as the presidium members.
L Rameshwar while expressing contentment over the observation of Nupi Lan Day by the Manipuris residing in Assam.
As a part of the programme, he laid the foundation stone of a new building of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Bhavan, Hojai.
Meanwhile Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Brahmapur Valley, Assam too observed the Nupi Lan day at Chariali Durga Mandap, Nandapur in Hojai.
Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup in association with All Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibi Sangtha, Assam observed the day at Pailapool in Cachar district.
