Karong MLA raises curtain of Barak Festival

The curtain raiser event of the 3rd state level Barak Festival, 2022 was inaugurated by Karong AC MLA J Kumo Sha as chief guest at Liyai village, the origin of Barak River, in the presence of ADC Senapati ex-executive member Thaikho Peter as guest of honour.
Commencing the programme with blessings from Liyai Khullen village chief at the Barak source, Liyai Khunou village chairman, in his welcome address, stated that the mighty Barak River originates from Liyai village and it flows far and wide and feeding thousands by its water till date.
The village chairman also honoured and paid tribute to the mighty river.
Speaking at the function, MLA Kumo Sha praised the God for the beautiful land that had been blessed with and continued that the local population have a big role to play as the river originates from the village.
As a measure to protect and preserve the environment, the villagers should plant more trees and preserve them in order to sustain the river water, he maintained.
The MLA further highlighted the need to love one another saying that nothing great could be achieved without love for one another.
He also assured of providing separate budget for curtain raiser programme of the festival to make the festival a grand one.
In his address, Thaikho Peter stated that Barak festival was recognised as a state level festival by chief minister N Biren Singh and added that the current year would be the third time to organise the celebration.
The area is blessed with two rivers originating from the land including Barak River from Liyai village and Iril River from Lakhamai village, he pointed out, while urging for preservation of the environment as well as promoting one's culture and not to forget them as the region develops.
The Liyai villagers welcomed the guests with a traditional whooping by all menfolk of the village.
The main event is scheduled to be held on December 13 and 14 with the state's chief minister scheduled to attend the inaugural function as chief guest.
