Football tourney organised, friendly matches played

Imphal, December 12 2022:
Churachandpur Battalion of IGAR (South) organised an inter-village football tournament for the youths of five villages of Henglep sub-division under the campaign 'Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan' at Munpi village in Churachandpur district on Sunday.
While informing that the tournament was aimed at promoting sports as a tool to fight drug usage amongst the youth, PRO IGAR (S) said in a release that event was organised to build harmony and understanding between the youth and the security forces.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted friendly volleyball match with youth of Phaibung Khunou as a part of Fit India Movement at Phaibung COB in Ukhrul district on Monday.
Mantripukhri Battalion of IGAR (South) also organised friendly volleyball match with Manipur U-17 Team at COB Singjamei in Imphal West district on Monday.
The team had 10 U-17 players and two coaches.
The friendly match was aimed at promoting good relations and bonhomie amongst the troops and local populace.
The players and others present were also educated on the role of sports in human development and various career opportunities in the field of sports, both in forces and outside.
Further, the locals were made aware about fitness and team spirit, skills that bring success in every field.
At the end of the match, Assam Rifles felicitated the team with sports items and light refreshment.
The people appreciated the efforts and cordial relation of Assam Rifles in maintaining peaceful environment in the area and requested to organise the sports event again in future.
Similarly, Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles/HQ IGAR (South) organised a friendly cricket match with Lilong Haoreibi College at Keithelmanbi on Sunday.
The match had healthy participation of 18 students and teachers from Lilong Haoreibi College.
The cricket match provided the platform for promoting sports in the youth of the region and an opportunity for healthy interaction and aligning the efforts of Assam Rifles and media towards "A Fitter Nation", the PRO said in separate statements.
