Heroin, WY tablets seized; peddlers escape

A joint team of CDO Kakching led by sub-inspector Ksh Prakash and Pallel PS led by sub-inspector Kh Mothilphun Dangshawa seized 122 grams of heroin and 3.319 kg of WY tablets from a vehicle abandoned by two smugglers following a hot pursuit in H Kotlenphai area of Tengnoupal district on Monday.
Police source said that the joint team was carrying out frisking and checking along NH 102 on Monday afternoon.
At around 2.35 pm, they signalled a Ford EcoSport (white colour) bearing registration number AS-01DJ-1909 with two occupants coming from Tengnoupal side to stop.
However, the vehicle took a sharp U-turn and sped off towards H Kotlenphai village.
The combined police team immediately chased after the vehicle but taking advantage of the number of blind corners of the IVR, the unknown driver and the occupant escaped after locking and abandoning the vehicle near the volleyball ground of H Kotlenphai village.
The police team conducted search in the adjoining area but could not trace the duo.
Later, on thorough checking of the vehicle with the help of a motor mechanic and two civilian witnesses from the village, police found 10 soap cases containing suspected Heroin and 15 plastic bundles containing suspected WY tablets.
The total weight of the Heroin powder was round to be 122 gm and that of the WY tablets 3.319 kg.
The seized items along with the vehicle have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further legal action and investigation, the source said.
