Civil societies pay befitting tributes to Nupi Lal martyrs

United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) observed the 83rd Nupi Lal Day at Adimjati hall, Chingmeirong, here, on Monday and released a book entitled 'Nupi Lan Da Pangal Nupishing' on the occasion.
The observance function was attended by Keirao Mak-ting ZP member Delela Begum, UMMWDO president Anwari Nurjahan, AMMOCOC president SM Jalal, retired MU professor Salam Ereni, Mingshel executive member S Muhamuddin Sheikh, GP Women's College professor A Hakim Shah Khullakpam, advocate Md Rabi Khan and LHC Alumni Association president Md Nasir Khan as presidium members.
At the function, UMMWDO president Anwari Nurjahan said that the present generation must understand the courage of Manipuri women who fought against the mighty British without any arms.
Participation of women of all communities during the Nupi Lal showcases love and understanding among different indigenous communities of Manipur, she observed.
Regarding the book 'Nupi Lan Da Pangal Nupishing', Anwari Nurjahan said that the book clearly mentions the role played by Muslim women in the Nupi Lal, which were left out by some historians.
She then urged the government to rectify the history on Nupi Lal.
Manipur University Working Women's Association (MUWWA) observed Nupi Lal at Women's Facility Centre located inside MU campus on December 9.The observance was attended by MU dean of humanities professor M Aruna as chief guest, professor Sumitra Phanjoubam as president and Dr Khelena Gurumayum as guest of honour.
Speaking at the programme, Professor Aruna stressed the need to learn from women of Manipur and to remember the brave women by organising such programmes.
Dr Khelena Gurumayum recounted about the two Nupi Lal and the lessons these two historic events gave to the people of the land.
Nupi Lal Memorial Association Manipur also observed the day at Nupi Lal Memorial complex where people lit lamps and paid floral tributes to those brave Manipuri women who fought against the mighty British.
The observance was attended by Nupi Lal Memorial Association Manipur, Head Quarters president W Bormani and other office bearers of the association.
THOUBAL: Ningombam Apunba Meira Paibi Nupi Lup, Thoubal Ningombam organised the 83rd Nupi Lal Day at Ningombam Sana Keithel community hall in Thoubal district on Monday.
The observance was attended by Lup president Okram Thoibi, Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association president Thongam Kumu Leima, Thoubal Municipal Council Ward Number 10 care-taker Hijam Jamuna, Ward Number 11 former member Sanjit Ningombam and Amanda Purna Higher Secondary School, Thoubal principal Sapam Swaminath as the presidium members.
As part of the programme, floral tributes were paid to the portraits of the women folks who Were part of the Nupi Lal, followed by speeches of presidium members on the epochal women's uprising against the then British rulers.
A marathon in two categories was also conducted after which prizes were distributed to the winners.
CCPUR: The 83rd Nupi Lal Memorial Day was jointly observed by Ima Leimarel, Nupi Samaj and Ladies United Development Organisation at Meetei Society hall, Khuga Tampak on Monday.
The programme was presided over by Ima Leimarel secretary Ph Leima, who also led all the presidium members in lighting the candles and paying homage to those who took part during the Nupi Lal.
As a part of the observance, Ima Leimarel president A Nayani Leima, Nupi Samaj, Churachandpur district president G Randhoni Devi, Meetei Society president M Thoiba Singh, Meetei Youth Organisation president H Jo-gendro Meetei, AMKIL vice president RK Bino, Nupi Samaj advisor Khudrakpam Indu, Churachandpur United Club Organisation president SK Mangang Ladies United Development Organisation president Y Anandini recounted events leading to the women's uprising.
MOREH: Moreh-based Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Minority Women Development Society and Muslim Women Development Association jointly observed the 83rd Nupi Lan at Ima Kon-dong Lairembi on Monday.
The observance was attended by Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup president Th Ibe-mhal Leima, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup Moreh president Th Jamuna Devi, Muslim Women Development Association president Jubeda Begum and Muslim Women Development Society president Noorjahan Begum as the presidium members while Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) president M Thoiba Meitei, All Community Development Organisation (ACODOM) president Th Budha Meitei, Manipur Muslim Council, Moreh (MMCM) president Md Rajaudin, Tamil Sangam, Moreh president V Sekhar, Gorkha Samaj Samiti, Moreh president Durga Prasad, Border Trade & Chamber of Commerce, Moreh general secretary Surender Singh Patheja and Ema Kondong Lairembi Committee, Moreh president N Pulindro Singh were present as special invitees.
During the observance, Dr L Kamim Kumar, CCSK consultant Dr Ashangbam Jiten and AMAWOVA advisor Ch Usharani spoke about the Nupi Lan as resource persons.
Floral tributes were paid to the photo of brave women who took part in the historic 'Nupi Lan'.
A memorial run by mothers was also organised prior to the formal observance.
