Piggery farmers seek Govt attention to address plights of farmers affected by Swine Flu

Manipur Progressive Piggery Farmers Association (MAPPFA) has categorically asserted that the State Government has not provided any compensation to the piggery farmers of the State who have been impacted by the African Swine Flu.
The statement was made by Khundrakpam Malemnganba, general secretary, MAPPFA during the 1st annual general body meeting of MAPPFA held today at Presbyterian Complex, Kabo Leikai.
The meeting was attended by numerous piggery farmers from different regions of the State.
Addressing the gathering, Khundrakpam Malemnganba continued to say that in the neighbouring states of Assam and Mizoram, the respective governments have started handing out compensation to piggery farmers who were affected by this viral disease.
However, in Manipur, the State Government is yet to offer any compensation to affected piggery farmers, he lamented.
He further assured that the Association will take up necessary steps to draw the Government's attention to this matter.
The general secretary also shared that MAPPFA was established in 2019 and has conducted many awareness programmes concerning African Swine Flu, conducted timely tests on pigs, administered necessary shots across pig farms etc.
The Association also continues to provide support to small piggery farmers.
