MLA Joykisan launches 'Green Thangmeiband Mission'

Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan on Monday launched 'Green Thangmeiband Mission' with the aim to increase greenery in the assembly constituency and to protect the environment.
The MLA launched the mission to mark the 13th foundation day of Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) by planting saplings at Govardhan Achouba Lai-bung, Thangmeiband Polem Leikai.
Speaking at the programme, MLA Joykisan recounted that since its inception TAKDO has been taking up different activities and carrying them out.
In previous years, it focused on the Covid-19 and has been successful in tackling the pandemic.
He continued that this year decision has been taken to launch large-scale planting of saplings to increase the green cover of the constituency.
Noting the worrying trend of climate change all over the world and state due to rapid deforestation, the MLA stressed that the mission has been launched to protect the environment from further degradation.
Joykisan also pointed out that since it is winter season, saplings will be planted in huge numbers in all areas of the AC from next year onwards when the rain starts to fall.
He mentioned that sapling will mainly be planted on the sides of roads and the mission has received big support from the chief minister and the forest minister.
He announced that to ensure that the saplings mature, TAKDO will take proper care of each sapling by watering them regularly and by fencing the plants to protect them from animals.
Joykisan also urged the people and CSOs of hill areas to stop deforestation and jhum cultivation in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, the main event of the 13th foundation day of TAKDO was held at Ibudhou Naothingkhong Shan glen with MLA Joykisan as chief guest and TAKDO president Kh Nobokumar as president.
CAU former vice chancellor Dr Moirangthem Premjit, TAKDO Elders' Forum president & former health director Dr Ch Chandramani and representatives of Hindustani Samaj, Jain Samaj and Punjabi Samaj also attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Kh Joykisan informed that blacktopping of 70 per cent of the roads in the AC has been completed and by 2023 there will be no road in the AC without blacktopping.
Some of the roads which have earlier been blacktopped, but were not done from drain to drain will now also be blacktopped again in more widened manner, he stated.
Joykisan further conveyed that very soon the water reservoir constructed at Cheiraoching will be inaugurated after which 24-hour water supply will be provided.
As part of the programme, AC's Manipur Civil Service Combined Examination selected candidates and sportspersons who brought laurels for the state in national and international events were felicitated.
