Man arrested with 696 gm brown sugar

Imphal, December 12 2022:
Churachandpur district police on Monday arrested a man along with 696 grams of brown sugar from near Dongjang village.
The arrested man has been identified as Nehminthang Kipgen (38) son of Paojalet Kipgen of Zalenbung village, Litan, Ukhrul district but presently a resident of Songpeh village, Churachandpur.
According to police,on receipt of reliable information about a man driving an EECO van coming from Khuangkhai side towards Churachandpur transporting contraband drugs concealed inside the vehicle for distribution at different places, a team of Churachandpur police under the command of SI Letminlal Suantak was maintained vigil and subsequently intercepted the vehicle (MN01AG2902) driven by Nehminthang Kipgen near Donjang village at around 4 pm.
A requisition was made to Churachandpur district administration for deputing one executive magistrate at Niangzen Servicing Centre, Bungmual for search of the vehicle and accordingly, the vehicle was taken there for inspection.
On search of the van with the help of mechanics in the presence of SDM/Tuibuong and independent witnesses, 54 soap cases of brown sugar weighing 696 grams concealed in a false compartment underneath the vehicle were recovered.
The man was arrested and the EECO van along with a mobile phone seized around 6.10 pm.
A case has been registered under ND & PS Act for further investigation, it added.
