Kakching, December 12 2022:
Despite the fact that the contagious African swine fever (ASF) hit certain parts of the state leaving many pig farmers in despair, the state government has failed to provide necessary compensation to the farmers till date, charged Manipur Progressive Piggery Farmers' Association (MAPPFA).
This was disclosed by MAPPFA general secretary Khundrakpam Malemnganba during the first annual general body meeting of the Association held at Kabo Leikai Presbyterian Complex, here, on Monday.
The general secretary said that the governments of Assam and Mizoram acted swiftly in extending compensation to their pig farmers who have been affected by the contagious African Swine Flu outbreak.
However, the government of Manipur is yet to provide compensation to the affected farmers so far.
The association will do the needful to address distress of the aggrieved pig farmers so that the message reaches the authority concerned.
Malemnganba also informed MAPPFA was formed in 2019 during the African Swine Flu outbreak considering the need for all the pig farmers of the state to stay connected.
As of now, the association has organised awareness camps on swine flu along with providing testing and vaccination facilities.
