Bishnupur, May 04 2024:
In observance of one year completion of the ongoing ethnic conflict, a candle lighting ceremony in honour of the martyrs of the ongoing conflict was organised at Oinam College in Bishnupur district on Saturday.
One of the IDPs, who participated the event, appealed to the government to resolve the conflict promptly and let them return to their homes, saying "even birds have their nests to return to, while we are left to seek refuge in relief camps.
The people's patience are wearing thin of the ruling government shouting false promises" .
The IDP accused the government of prioritising the election over the values of their lives, who left everything behind while running for their lives from the onslaught of the miscreants.
"We want to return to our homes and rebuild our lives.
How long till the indifferent union and state government take up steps to actually resolve the conflict? For how long will we have to seek refuge in our own land living like caged preys?" the IDP lamented.
One IDP woman said that the womenfolk staying at the relief camps are resorting to go door to door selling homemade items including detergents and candles, out of desperation to feed their families.
The IDPs are facing constant fear of living the rest of their lives in the relief camps, surviving each day and never fulfilling their deep desire to return to their homes and continue their normal daily lives with their loved ones, she continued.
Meanwhile, Manipur Kanba Lup Oinam, Relief Camp Committee Oinam and NSS Oinam jointly organised an interaction programme with residents of relief camps at the conference hall of Thambal Marik Collage, Oinam at Tangleiha.
During the programme, the IDPs voiced their anguishes and expressed their desires for the conflict to end.
