Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan has stated that the Government is working consistently to give strength to the primary healthcare system of the State so as to provide treatment facilities at people's doorsteps.
The Minister made the remark while attending the inaugural ceremony of a temporary Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Kwakeithel Soibam Leikai, today.
At the function, Dr Ranjan continued that Manipur, despite having a small population, faces an increasing burden of chronic diseases.
He further said that the number of cancer and diabetic patients and stroke-related mortality in the State has been increasing since the past few years.
Continuing that the rate of cervical cancer in India is alarming and Manipur is no exception, Dr Ranjan stated that the Health Department has been carrying out screening and health camps in different parts of the State to diagnose the people early and prevent complications from diseases.
The Health Minister also said that the Government has been spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene among the adolescents by visiting different schools.
Maintaining that many cases of diabetes and hypertension were detected while screening people for non communicable diseases at their respective houses under Chief Minister's Health for All programme, Dr Ranjan maintained that the majority of people in Manipur consult doctors only at the last hours or when their health deteriorates to a good extent.
Meanwhile, Dr Ranjan said that a permanent structure of the temporary UPHC will be constructed shortly and the process is underway for the same.
Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo, Health Director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang and State Mission Director of National Health Society, NHM, Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam also attended the programme among others.
