Imphal, November 01 2022:
Reacting to a Times News Network report carried by this paper yesterday regarding seizure of over 5 kilograms of opium from a BSF Inspector and two of his aides in Jaipur, the Public Relations Officer of the Assam Headquarters of Border Security Force has clarified that "some contents of the news are far from the truth..." .
A statement it issued today said, the Inspector of the Border Security Force "is not posted in north-west Manipur/Manipur" as mentioned in the report.
It may be noted that the TNN report, published by the Times of India on October 31 had stated that the BSF Inspector identified as Rajendra Kudi was posted at north-west Manipur.
According to the report, Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba had said that a crime branch team arrested Inspector Rajendra Kudi, posted in north-west Manipur, and his two aides, Kailash Devenda and Madan Berala along with 1 kg of opium and Rs 70,000 in cash.
The report also said that a search was conducted at the Inspector's residence near Sikar Road where 4 kilograms of opium was also seized along with one pistol, two magazines and 12 live cartridges.
In the clarification issued to this paper by the Border Security Force, it claimed that "Inspector Kuri [Kudi] of BSF hails from Rajasthan State and he is not posted in north-west Manipur as mentioned in your news report whereas, he is presently posted in one of the BSF Battalions which has recently moved to Mizoram from Kerala for deployment on Indo-Bangladesh border..." .
The Inspector was arrested by Jaipur Police "while on leave in Rajasthan" and he has "not yet joined" his posting at Mizoram.
"Therefore the news published in 'Sangai Express' newspaper about posting of above Inspector in Manipur is not true," read the statement of the PRO BSF.
Here, it may be mentioned again that The Sangai Express had carried the October 31 report of the Times News Network published by the Times of India, yesterday.
