Imphal, November 01 2022:
While taking note of the high number of cervix cancer cases in the state, health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that a target has been set to introduce the CA Cervix Vaccination, which once approved by the central government, would serve as additional protection on top of the ongoing screening programmes undertaken by the health department and various organisations.
Health minister Dr Ranjan on Tuesday inaugurated Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Sagolband at a temporary building at Kwakeithel Soibam Leikai, Haorakchambi.
Speaking as chief guest of the inauguration function held at Haorakchambi community hall, Dr Ranjan urged the people to avail the various government health welfare programmes/schemes so as to bring about a healthy society.
The BJP government's target is to provide primary health care facilities to the people and as such, the departments concerned have been providing awareness in this regard.
Thus, he appealed to the people to avail the benefits of the same, while further seeking cooperation of both the locals and the department concerned with regard to the smooth functioning of the newly inaugurated UPHC.
The minister then cited the data from a recent conference, which highlighted the rising number of cervix cancer cases in Manipur.
As such, the government has been taking up measures to prevent the disease including taking up the CM Menstrual Hygiene programme, he conveyed.
Delivering the presidential speech, Sagolband MLA RK Imo remarked that UPHC is the first health centre of the constituency, the importance of which was realised during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The health centre will continue to operate from the temporary building until the construction of its assigned building is completed, including provisions of emergency services, he added.
The MLA then assured that the remaining roads of the constituency will be blacktopped, while the smaller roads will be upgraded into concrete ones.
The third overhead tank of the constituency will soon begin operation and one of the two overhead reservoirs to be constructed under MAHUD as part of AMRUT 2 will be built at Bijoy Govinda.
He then appealed to the people for their support, while further urging them to elect corporators who will work for the people, in the upcoming polls.
The function was also attended by Health director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang; NHM state mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam; Ward no.7 corporator RK Jiten; Ward no.10 corporator Salam Tiken and Ward no.24 corporator G Bino as guests of honour.
