Imphal, November 01 2022:
In continuation of the democratic agitation taken up by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) and other women's groups against the September 20 decision of the government to legalise production and sale of liquor in the state, a sit-in protest was organised jointly by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Pureiromba Leikai Meira Paibi and CADA at Nongpok Ingkhol Pureiromba Leikai in Imphal East district on Tuesday.
In a release, CADA Information and Publicity secretary Khundongbam Anand stated that the protestors held placards and shouted slogans against revocation of Prohibition Act by the government.
Speaking at the protest site, CADA secretary general Geetchandra Mangang decried the government for not being able to implement the Prohibition Act and citing it as an excuse for legalisation of liquor.
This shows that the government is weak and is unable to govern properly, he stressed.
