History of Naga Regt recalled on 52nd Raising Day

The Ex-Servicemen of Naga Regiment of Senapati and Kangpokpi district of Manipur celebrated its 52nd Raising Day today at Puni Pfosemai village, Senapati district.
It may be noted that Naga Regimental Day is celebrated to commemorate the raising of the first battalion of the Naga Regiment on November 1, 1970 at Kumaon Regimental Centre at Ranikhet.
Today's event was graced by Brig SJ Tiwari, Commander, 59 Mountain Brigade as the chief guest.
On this auspicious occasion, senior officers from the organization also commended them for their role in nation building and the contribution of the regiment during the 1971 war, Operation VIJAY and maintenance of internal security.
The senior army officer paid tribute to the martyrs and remembered them for their ultimate sacrifices for the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
Later, Lt Gen RC Tiwari, AVSM, SM, GOC 3 Corp addressed the gathering through video conference.
Ex-servicemen of 1, 2, 3 Naga Regiment shared their experience and how they fought the Kargil War in 1999 .
The event was made more remarkable by the presence of Naik Subedar Ngamjok Konyak from Nagaland who retired in 2007 from 2 Naga Regiment.
He was reportedly one of the survivors of mine blast in a counter insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He reportedly lost his leg in the blast.
He is from Mon village in Nagaland.
Another highlight was the presence of Komune, wife of (Lt) Naik Sani Lohrii Mao who was killed in Kargil War.
The late soldier reportedly belonged to Mao Pungdung village of Senapati district.
He was reportedly awarded the Sena Medal for the supreme sacrifice he made.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
