DFO, Senapati warns against killing of wildlife, migratory birds

The District Wildlife Warden, Senapati of the Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati, has issued a stem warning against hunting/killing/destruction of wildlife including migratory birds Amur Falcon (Falcon amurensis) in the district.
According to a public notice issued by the Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati, D John Sha, MFS, DFO has stated that hunting/killing/destruction of wildlife including migratory birds in any way for food or possession or otherwise is a punishable offence under Section 50 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.The step was reportedly taken as migratory birds particularly Amur Falcon, have been sighted in some parts of Senapati district since the last few days.
The visiting birds are likely to roost till the end of November and this period is considered crucial in the life cycle of Amur Falcons.
The bird is considered to be a part of an ecosystem which maintains ecological balance for sustenance of all living organisms and its' environment for a sustainable living most importantly to humans.
In view of the above mentioned reasons, the Office has directed the public in general not to resort to wildlife crime and added that individuals found violating the directive will be liable to be prosecuted under the legal provision of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .
The notice also requested the village authorities concerned to announce the warning widely through loudspeakers and give awareness to the villagers to protect the migratory birds.
