Imphal, November 01 2022:
The 24th conference of Manipur Loumi Marup, which is affiliated to All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) was held on Tuesday at Comrade Lamabam Ibotombi village.
The conference began with unfurling of red-coloured flag embossed with crossed plough associated with Jananeta Irabot by Irabot's nephew Hijam Indrakumar.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader Vijoo Krishnan, who attended the conference, said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is against the welfare of farmers of the country.
The present government led by PM Modi brutally tortures rural people particularly farmers and is interested only in communal activities.
This indeed is a challenge to the unity and integrity of the nation and accordingly farmers of the country have to launch a movement against the Modi government, he said and stressed the need for strengthening Manipur Loumi Marup to join the movement.
In his keynote address, CPI (M) Manipur secretary Ksh Shanta said that a mega session of All India Kisan Sabha gave approval for use of crossed plough red flag associated with Jananeta Irabot and this indeed was an honour for the farmers of the state.
The conference later passed a charter of demands containing 14 points.
The key demands mentioned in the charter of demands include implementation of MSP in Manipur and procurement of one quintal of paddy at Rs 3,000 from farmers by the government; monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to farmers who crossed 60 years of age and distribution of farmland document to every farmer with proper implementation of MLR & LR Act; development of village roads frequented by farmers for transportation of farm produces; 200 working days under MGNREGS; and strengthening of PDS to provide 14 items to every citizen.
