At least 7 cops hurt in stone pelting

At least seven police personnel including a Sub Inspector of Imphal West police got injured while trying to control a scuffle at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex last night.
Reportedly, 19 people who were involved in the altercation have been arrested by the police.
It is reported that the fight ensued between two groups of people during a sports cum cultural programme held at Khuman Lampak.
The programme was organised by Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal.
As per a well placed source, a heated argument broke out between people who came to attend the programme late and the organiser and soon after they started pelting stones at one another.
On receiving inputs about the incident, a team of police rushed to the spot only to be welcomed by a rain of stones thrown by the two groups.
In the process, some police personnel including a Sub Inspector got injured as they were hit by flying stones.
The injured police personnel were taken to Raj Medicity.
Later, a team of commandos led by Imphal West SP Shivakanta headed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
They, however, were also attacked by the mob with stones from different directions.
In return, the commando fired several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs, pushing the mob towards Dingku Road.
After the situation was brought under control, the police detained 19 persons who were involved in the altercation and took them to their custody.
A case has been registered.
Meanwhile, a joint emergency meeting of Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal; Nagaram Village Authority, Tangkhul Avenue Village, ANSAM and local clubs was convened at the ground of Namdunlong Development Committee.
The meeting condemned last night's incident which led to the injuries of some police personnel.
They also apologised to Namdulong villagers.
