Wildlife warden warns against wildlife hunting

Senapati, November 01 2022:
The district wildlife warden has issued a stern warning against hunting/killing/destruction of wildlife including migratory birds Amur Falcon (falcon amurensis) in Senapati.
According to a public notice issued by Senapati divisional forest officer D John Sha, hunting/killing/destruction of wildlife including migratory birds Amur Falcon in any way for food or possession or otherwise is a punishable offence under sections 50 & 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.The move came in the wake of migratory birds particularly Amur Falcon being sighted in some parts of Senapati district since the last few days, coming from a long distance passing through the district being the migratory route for the birds.
The visiting birds are likely to roost till the end of November, 2022 and this period is considered crucial in the life cycle of Amur Falcons.
The bird is considered to be a part of ecosystem which maintains ecological balance for sustenance of all living organisms and its environment for a sustainable living most importantly to the humans.
While Senapati is endowed with rich biodiversity and the people are known for good hospitality, it is incumbent upon all to welcome the long-distance visitors coming to the district for a short period of time by protecting them to make the district a hotspot global destination to visit and roost, elaborated the warden.
The order directed all the public in general not to resort to wildlife crime as any person violating will be liable to prosecution under the legal provision of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.It also requested the village authority concerned to announce widely through loud speakers and give awareness to the villagers to protect the migratory birds.
