ESM celebrates raising day of Naga Regiment

The ex-servicemen (ESM) of Naga Regiment of Senapati and Kangpokpi districts celebrated the regiment's 52nd raising day at Puni Pfosemai village in Senapati district on Tuesday.
The raising day of the first Naga Regiment battalion was celebrated on November 1, 1970 at Kumaon Regimental Centre at Ranikhet.
The day's event was held with 59 Mountain Brigade commander Brig SJ Tiwari as chief guest.
During the event, senior officers from the regiment also addressed the gathering and praised the role of the regiment in nation building and its contribution during the 1971 war, Operation Vijay and in maintaining internal security.
The senior army officers paid tributes to the martyrs and remembered them for their ultimate sacrifices for the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
The Naga Regiment has a rich history and saga of valour and bravery.
Brig SJ Tiwari conveyed Indian Army's solidarity and commitment to veterans and assured that the army is sensitive to their needs and would take every step to ensure that the ex-servicemen, veer naris and their families are looked after well.
He also reiterated the army 's goal of providing quality healthcare, dignity and problem resolution at all times.
Later, Lt Gen RC Tiwari, GOC 3 Corp, addressed the gathering through video conference.
Ex-service-men of 1, 2, 3 battalion of the Naga Regiment shared their experience while on service.
Some also shared how they fought the Kargil War in 1999.Notably, the event had the presence of Naik Subedar Ngamjok Konyak from Mon district in Nagaland, who retired in 2007 from 2 Naga Regiment.
He was one of the survivors of the mine blast in a counter insurgency operation in Jammu and Kashmir but lost one of his legs as it had to be amputated.
Komune, wife of Naik Sani Lohrii Mao, who was killed in the Kargil war, also attended the event.
The late soldier belonged to Mao Pungdung village of Senapati district.
He was awarded Sena medal for the supreme sacrifice he made for the country.
He left behind his wife and four children.
