MLA Ibomcha calls for using local products

Directorate of Handloom and Textiles organised a cleanliness programme starting from North AOC to Nilakuthi on Tuesday under the theme 'Clean Imphal' ahead of the Manipur International Textiles Expo (MANITEX) which would be held from November 5 to 14 at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi in Imphal East.
Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited chairman MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, who participated in the cleanliness programme, underscored the importance of public participation and support in promoting the handloom and handicraft industries of the state and called upon the people of the state for using the local products as far as possible.
The first edition of MANITEX was organised in 2018 by the N Biren government with the objective to promote the local handloom and handicraft products, to boost economy and to enhance income of weavers and artisans, he said, and reiterated his fervent appeal to the people of the state to use local handloom and handicraft products.
He also urged the weavers and artisans to improve the quality of their products in order to promote the products in the international market.
Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti, Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arun, Oinam MLA Ireng bam Nalini, Handloom & Textiles director Lam-lee Kamei, joint director E Jiten, film actor Gurumayum Bonny Sharma, Sunsilk Mega North East 2021 winner Danub Kang-jam, handloom & textiles officials also attended the programme.
Around 500 artisans, weavers and IMC workers also participated in the cleanliness programme.
