While condemning incidents of intimidation and assault in connection with the upcoming election, locals of Langtingkhal Gram Panchayat staged a sit-in protest at the community hall located in front of ex-MLA Ashab Uddin's residence at Sonapur on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, one Puja Namasudra informed that Latingkhal GP under Jiribam AC is a peaceful GP.

Informing that workers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Mor-cha (BJYM) came to the area and abducted three locals and beat up another, Puja said that following this incident, entry of more than five people from outside has been restricted in Latingkhal, Sutobekra and Borobekra GP after 5pm.If the outsiders came in group in vehicles, then youth of the GP will protest.
All the consequences should be borne by district administration and Election Commission if unwanted incidents occurred, she added.
The protestors used placards inscribed with slogans like 'We want free and fair election', 'We strongly condemn brutal assault on Anu Namasudra and Pritam Roy' and 'We want peace' among others.
Meanwhile, condemning the incident, large numbers of people from Sonapur and Lalpani blocked the road at Lalpani bazaar and tried to stage rally to Jiribam DC office.
A team of Jiribam District police thwarted the attempt of the protestors.
