12 remanded for Andro violence

Duty Magistrate Imphal East has remanded 12 persons to three days police custody who were arrested by Andro police in connection with the confrontation between supporters of NPP and BJP candidates of Andro AC on the night of February 18 at Yairipok Tulihal Awang leikai.The IO of the case informed the Court that the 12 persons, identified as Heikham Kiran of Yairipok Top, Md Salimuddin of Changambadi Makha Leikai, Sanasam Brojen of Yairipok Yambem Shantipur, Khaidem Hemba of Yairipok Top Makha Leikai, Ningthoujam Samananda of Yairipok Top Makha Leikai, Hijam Uttam of Yairipok Yambem, Lourembam Jotin of Yambem Mathak Leikai, Moirangthem Anand of Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai, Sanabam Ingocha of Yambem Makha Leikai, Khumanthem Robert of Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai, Sharungbam Tondon of Yambem Makha Leikai and Chingakham Ranjan of Andro Khunou Torongthel, were arrested by a joint team of Andro police and Imphal East Commando yesterday.
The 12 individuals were arrested based on a suo-moto case registered based on information received on Feb 18 at around 11.05 pm that there was a confrontation between workers/supporters of NPP and BJP candidates of Andro AC during which six vehicles were destroyed and as the confrontation spread to Yairipok Tulihal Kaina road crossing, a number of people also sustained injuries who were rushed to hospital for medical treatment, the IO informed the Court.
IO also informed the Court that during the course of investigation the police visited the incident site and found 6 damaged four wheeler vehicles and 7 empty cartridges and one bullet proof jacket which is unauthorized for civilians.
The vehicles and bullet proof jacket are in the custody of Andro police, he added.
The police team also took an injury report of Takhellambam Thoibicha of Top Chingtha Kongbam leirak who was injured during the confrontation.
During interrogation the arrested persons admitted the charges leveled against them and also admitted that they are workers/ supporters of NPP and BJP candidates, the IO added.
Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the 12 arrested individuals into police custody until February 22 .
