Imphal, February 21 2022:
Refuting the allegations of violating democracy and press freedom made by AICC leader Jairam Ramesh, BJP Manipur Pradesh has said that it is the Congress party which violates democracy and suppress press freedom in the state.
Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Sunday, BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson Soubam Nongpoknganba said that the state witnessed several fake encounters under Congress rule.
Chief Minister N Biren had spent three months in the jail in 2000 when he was the editor of Naharolgi Thoudang daily.
Such incidents happened on multiple occasions.
However, BJP never acted above the law and the NSA case against a journalist during the present government was taken up only because that particular person misused the freedom of speech beyond the acceptable social norms, he said.
He also termed the remark of Jairam Ramesh against BJP as baseless and said that he was making such allegations as he knows his party will suffer loss in the ensuing election.
Undemocratic ideology and dynastic politics are the main factors for the downfall of Congress party, Nongpoknganba said, while adding that Congress party will not be able to rise up again for a long time.
