Churachandpur, February 21 2022:
Former DGP Manipur, LM Khaute, who is contesting as JD (U) candidate from Churachandpur AC, has said that he joined JD(U) to fight the upcoming election 2022 after considering the ideologies and visions of the party.
"JD(U), as I understand, stands for secularism and socialism, taking pride in the sovereignty of the country, he said, during an interaction.
On the protection of tribal rights, Khaute said that the tribals in Manipur have their rights which are protected by the constitution and law of the land.
However, if these rights are violated or if there is apprehension, then the issue should be addressed, he added.
About the BJP's manifesto which does not include issues like protection of tribal rights, he pointed out that every party has its own manifesto and it is up to the people to assess the degree of reality of the assurances given by a political party and make their own conclusion.
"I'm a tribal myself and I spell out clearly that the rights and wishes under the law of the land, the constitution of the country and the rights stipulated under various Acts and provisions of the law will be protected.
I will personally take up the matter if I get elected to the assembly and at different forums to ensure that these constitutional rights guaranteed to the tribals are protected at all cost," the former DGP asserted.
On the insurgency situation, Khaute said that insurgency situation in Manipur has improved significantly during his stint as DGP, spanning over nearly 6 years.
"The law-and-order situation has improved," he added.
Commenting on the trust deficit between hills and valley people, the JD(U) candidate said that it had been his aim and objective as DGP to bridge the communication gap, maintain law and order, and bring peace and harmony among different sections of people across the state of Manipur.
