Imphal, February 21 2022:
The Thangmeiband United Club has announced the boycott of BJP candidate in the Constituency Jyotin Waikhom, after the candidate allegedly said that there is no need for the Club to carry out its work of ensuring that no untoward incidents break out in Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to reporters today, president of TUC, Pratap Leishangthem said that the Club has been consistently taking up works to ensure that no case of poll related violence breaks out at Thangmeiband AC since 2017 .
TUC members received inputs that some wall posters of the JD (U) candidate in the AC were taken/torn down and in their place the posters of the BJP were instead pasted, said Pratap.
TUC received inputs that a fracas was about to erupt over the matter, said Prakash.
It was to defuse the situation that I along with some club members rushed to the site at Thangmeiband Lairen Hanjaba area, said Prakash and added that to pacify the incensed JD (U) workers, it was decided that fresh posters may be put up.
All these were done to check any unwanted situation or clash between party workers in Thangmeiband AC, said Prakash.
After some time some members of TUC went to the BJP camp site and asked two/three members to come to the premises of TUC to settle the matter amicably, said Prakash.
Later BJP candidate Jyotin Waikhom along with 60/70 of his supporters came and said that there is no point of going to the club to talk things over.
Let them do anything, we will stick to our stand, he said, alleged Prakash.
Questioning how a candidate of the BJP can talk in such a manner, without any acknowledgment of the work done by TUC to avert clashes amongst workers of different candidates, Prakash wondered how the BJP named such a man as its candidate.
To protest such unruly conduct of Jyotin Waikhom, TUC has resolved to boycott him, said Prakash and added that it is up to the people of Thangmeiband to decide whether he should be sent to represent them in the Assembly or not.
