Imphal, February 21 2022:
Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (LUP) has called a statewide 48-hour bandh from February 24 against the scheduled date of second phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on March 5 .
In a statement, UKAL informed that a meeting of representatives of different bodies and Umang Lai Thougal Lup was convened at its Konung Mamang office on Monday, wherein a unanimous resolution was adopted to impose a 48-hour statewide bandh against non-rescheduling of the date for second phase of the polls.
As March 5 happens to be first day of the lunar month of Lamta, which entails the ritual of Sharoi Khangba, the body had requested ECI, CEC and CEO to change the poll date.
However, no positive response has been given and as such, the decision to impose the bandh was taken.
Religious activities, emergency services and media would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, it conveyed.
