1st District Level Fish Festival concludes

The first District Level Fish Festival for Senapati district was held at Purul Multi-Purpose Hall, Purul in Senapati district on November 25 and 26.The inaugural event of the two-day festival was attended by Fisheries Department additional director Khamsing Ahum as chief guest, Poumai Naga Union president Dailord Pao as functional president and district fishery officer Singoba Singh as guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Khamsing Ahum said that as Manipur has huge deficit of fish production compared to the level of consumption people of hill districts should venture into fish farming and contribute to increase the state's fish yield.
Speaking on the occasion, Singoba Singh assured of his best effort for the development of fisheries in Senapati district and urged the fish farmers to register under group accidental insurance scheme (GAIS) so that the farmers can get benefit from it.
It may be mentioned that 26 stalls were opened and around 1005 Kg of fishes displayed and sold during the festival.
