CM unveils renovated statue of king Bhagyachandra

Chief minister N Biren unveiled the newly renovated status of king Bhagyachandra taming a wild elephant installed in the middle of Khwairamband Keithel on Sunday.
The statue has been renovated by Art and Culture Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Biren reminded that it is the duty of the present generation to preserve history and places of historical importance for the future generations.
The statue was in a deteriorated condition due to which his government took up the initiative of renovating it by consulting experts, he said adding that the government is planning to construct a bridge over the historical Thong Nambonbi to use the space and at the same time conserve the historic bridge too.
The CM also said that G-20 presidency is a wonderful opportunity for India as the country would be able to capitalise on the opportunity to bring development in different sectors under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There will be huge opportunities for educated and skilled youth, he maintained and said that the state would also host a couple of events for G-20 either in February or March next year.
Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, art and culture commissioner M Joy, director L Kishworjit, and archaeology superintendent K Sashikumar also attended the unveiling ceremony of the statue.
Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel also accorded warm welcome to the chief minister and the titular king by presenting gifts.
