Imphal, November 27 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson Hareswar Goswami has expressed serious resentment over misquoting a remark made by CLP leader and former chief minister O Ibobi Singh during Constitution Day observance and attempting to draw political mileage out of the same.
Hareswar told media persons during a press conference at Congress Bhawan, here, on Sunday that Ibobi made a remark during Constitution Day observance that which religion the people of Manipur followed before arrival of Hinduism and Christianity is not known as there is no record and entire native communities of Manipur could have followed a single religion before arrival of the two faiths.
However, O Ibobi's remark published by a local daily as caption was uploaded on social media to tarnish image his image and to take political mileage, Hareswar said and termed the malafide intention as very unfortunate.
While stating that CLP leader's remark was misquoted and the former chief minister never made such remark, Hareswar Goswami continued that there is report of people of Manipur following Sanamahi religion before the arrival of Hinduism and Christianity and this religion could have been followed by entire communities of the state.
Being a sentimental one, the matter should have been tackled properly and published accordingly, he said, adding that only a thorough research could identify the religion followed by entire communities of Manipur before the arrival of Hinduism and Christianity.
