Sit-in protest staged at various places against liquor legalisation

The Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol continues to stage protest demanding a rollback of alcohol legalisation in collaboration with various women's organisations of the State.
Today, sit-in protests were staged at five different locations in Imphal West district.
At Khagempalli, the protest was jointly organised at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Yumjao Lairembi Nupi Lup, NIMPAL Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai Branch and CAD A Imphal West District Committee.
Similarly, All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Laikhurembi Panchayat Maning Apunba Meira Paibi and CADA jointly staged a sit-in protest at Uripok Laikhurembi Panchayat Maning.
At Lamdeng, the protest was held at Lamdeng Lamkhai Waiting Shed organised by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), EECHAL Lamsang Branch and CADA.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, one Ima Nganbi Kamai claimed that the people do not want high quality liquor, adding that alcohol abuse has claimed the lives of many good men and left their wives as widows.
She stated that many have lost their properties in paying for the cost of medical treatment for diseases arising out of alcohol abuse.
She questioned the Government about the benefits of alcohol and what benefits exactly the Government wants from legalising alcohol.
All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Paona Bazar Women's Welfare Organisation in association with CADA organised a sit-in protest in front of Usha Cinema Hall at Paona Bazar.
Lastly, a sit-in protest was also staged at Khurai Paonam Leirak Nandeibam Leikai by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL), District Committee AMKIL, Khurai Kanba Nupi Lup, Paonam Leirak Nandeibam Leikai and CADA.
Notably, protestors at all these sites shouted slogans expressing their opposing stand against alcohol legalisation.
Some of the slogans include, "Alcohol legalisation cannot be enforced in Manipur", "Save Manipuri people from alcohol abuse" and "Rollback alcohol legalisation" among others.
