State endowed with scenic tourist spots: PK Jha

As part of the Manipur Sangai Festival, the second Manipur Tourism Congress cum Familiarisation Tour-2022 was held Sunday at Imphal Hotel, North AOC, here.
Commissioner (tourism) PK Jha, who attended the congress, said that there are many beautiful tourist sites in all the 16 districts and the state government is planning to develop Manipur as a world class tourist destination.
With Miss India pageant coming to the state in 2023, the government is developing tourist infrastructure, he said, adding that as some hotels of the state have already achieved the 3-Star status and there would be no accommodation problem in hosting big events like Miss India pageant.
Regarding public response to the ongoing Sangai festival, PK Jha said visitors at the fes tival is increasing day by day as it is being held after a gap of two years.
On Saturday alone, more than 60,000 visitors witnessed the festival at two main venues, namely, Hapta Kangjeibung and Moirang Khunou.
He also informed that Barak Festival would be held in the last week of December this year and the government is planning to have one each festival for all the 16 districts of the state.
Regarding stalls at Sangai festival venues, PK Jha informed that more than 300 stalls including international stalls are taking part in the festival at Hapta Kangjeibung.
Tourism director W Ibohal, who also took part in the congress, said that Manipur has many places associated with history and one main reason for showcasing cultural programmes at different venues of Sangai festival is to bring the spirit of oneness among different communities settling in the state.
He said that Shirui Lily festival held in Ukhrul district few months back attracted huge visitors as more than 1.5 lakh people came to witness the festival organised to preserve and promote the rare Shirui Lily.
