Pongal celebrated at Moreh

Moreh, January 15 2023:
Pongal, one of the biggest festivals of Tamils, was celebrated at the border town of Moreh today with MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand as the chief guest.
Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Premchandra and Thanga AC MLA T Robindro too attended the festival as president and guests of honour.
Lilong AC MLA Md Nasir Khan was the special guest of the celebration which was also attended by COs of 5 Assam Rifles, 20 Assam Rifles, Tengnoupal SP, high ranking officials of different Government departments, CSO leaders from Tamil Nadu, leaders of CSOs and student organisations based at Moreh.
Speaking at the celebration, Y Khemchand wished that the Pongal festival may bring peace, mutual respect among all the communities and prosperity in the State.
Letpao Haokip lauded the Tamil Sangam for adding games and sports events in the Pongal festival celebration saying that it would help in keeping youngsters away from intoxicating drugs.
Tamil Sangam president V Shekhar said that Pongal is a post harvest festival and it was being celebrated at Moreh to bring prosperity to all denizens of the border town.
Cultural dance and music and distribution of prizes to winners of different sports events were some other highlights of the festival.
