MLA Janghemlung calls for promotion of tribal films

The three-day first ever Tribal Film Festival concluded at Tamenglong district headquarters on Saturday.
The festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and supported by DIPR, Manipur.
Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung attended the valedictory programme cum grand finale of the festival as the chief guest while Noney SDO Pouralung Kabui, DIPR director Bal Krishna Singh, social worker Akinsin Gangmei, district horticulture officer Chunguang Pamei and former ADC member Ramningle Pame were the guests of honour.
In his address, MLA Janghemlung Panmei said: "This should be the beginning of new era or renaissance for tribal dialects films in Manipur.
Let's garner all the multi talents we have and take tribal films to greater heights.
From today onwards let's all make sure that we are marching forward to make movie to influence our society".
The chief guest further said that movies are one of the best mediums to showcase and promote own culture and tradition as well as influence the society positively, adding that usually tribal people have different folk tales, myths, etc., which can be used to educate the younger generation.
He also urged the DIPR director to guide the tribal people of Manipur in film making.
Speaking on the occasion, director Bal Krishna reflected on how the film festival came about while informing that Manipur cinema has started attracting international attention.
He thanked Tamenglong DC Armstrong Pame for his help in getting financial support from the central government for the tribal film festival.
In the meantime, the DIPR director congratulated the Hombill Entertainment for hosting the first ever tribal film festival ana assured of all possible financial assistance to promote tribal films at higher level.
Awards with certificates in various categories were also handed out by the chief guest and the guests of honour.
During the film festival, more than 30 tribal films were screened.
The best story award was bagged by Bobo Phaomei's Ning Ngamak Ge', while the award for best art direction was given to Assurance Raikhan for his film 'Ashang Eina Aaton', among others.
Anal feature film 'Peral Thingbol' took home four coveted awards including the Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay (Sng Pearson), Best Actor (Special Jury Award) Hb Ruwngthung and Best Director (Sng Pearson).
Dailong Youth Club performed beautiful traditional dance to open the grand finale ceremony attended by a huge audience.
Mention may be made that the three-day tribal film festival commenced on January 12 at Mini Stadium Apollo Ground, Tamenglong town, under the theme "Fostering cultural renaissance through art and entertainment".
Noney DC Joseph Pauline, ADC chief executive officer (Tamenglong) Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei, Relief & Disaster Management director Daigong Gangmei, SDO Tousem PaulNangsha and social worker Adai Phaomei had attended the inaugural function as chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
Zeme Women performed beautiful Zeme traditional dance and a traditional fire making was also performed on the opening day.
