Healthy bull pair competition held

The 5th healthy bull pair competition held on the second day of 13th state level Louroi Festival, currently underway at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai SSC ground, on Sunday.
The festival is being organised by Louroi Festival Observation committee (LFOC).
Speaking on the occasion, committee chief advisor Dr RK Lenin, who attended as president of the function, informed that the festival is being organised with the objective of protecting and preserving the age-old customs and traditions of the state which the present generation has almost forgotten with the advancement in science and technology.
Now machines have replaced the works earlier done by bulls such as ploughing the fields, he said.
Youngsters of present day are no more aware about the role of bulls in ploughing fields, bullock carts, ploughs, etc., which our forefathers used in the past.
As such, the festival will provide an opportunity to the upcoming generation to learn what their forefathers had used for everyday survival, he said, while adding that educational institutions also need to be informed about the festival so that they can send their students to understand more on the same.
Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha was the chief guest of the function while renowned film maker Aribam Syam Sharma was the special guest.
All Manipur Apunba Meitei Leima Meira Lup president K Guni Leima, veterinary and animal husbandry director Dr Ng Ibotombi were also present as guests of honour of the function.
The first, second, third, fourth and fifth position holders in the competition were awarded cash prize of Rs 10000, 8000, 6000, 4000 and 3000 respectively while all the participants were given Rs 2000 each.
