Imphal Book Fair-2023 underway at TRAU ground

Imphal, January 15 2023:
The 10-day 29th Imphal Book Fair-2023, which is being jointly organised by State Central Library, Imphal and Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata opened on Sunday at TRAU ground, Kwakeithel.
The opening function of the book fair was attended by commissioner (art & culture) M Joy as chief guest, director (art & culture) L Kishorjit as president and MALA president K Chaoba as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, M Joy highlighted that educational institutions require good libraries as library plays important role in developing youth into good citizens of a country.
Library is the source of knowledge and accordingly every section of the people should have the habit of reading books to gain knowledge.
He further said that the value of books cannot be ascertained without reading and many visitors at the book fair are purchasing books just by flipping few pages of the books.
While recalling the journey of Imphal Book Fair, M Joy said that the first was held at the erstwhile central library located near Raj Bhavan in 1991 and the fair shifted to the new building in 2005.From the year 2006, the book fair was held at different places like Pologround, THAU Thangmeiband ground, Hapta Kangjeibung and this year's edition is being held at TRAU ground.
He also said that State Central Library, Imphal is planning tb organise the next edition of Imphal Book Fair in a bigger way and Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation will be approached to provide more fund for organising the fair.
In his speech, L Kishorjit said that the State Central Library cannot be developed without public libraries and accordingly activating public libraries opened at locality level is very much required for promoting library movement in the state.
Altogether 90 stalls of 41 book firms including 19 from outside are taking part in the book fair which will continue till January 24 .
