Minister Khashim inspects Maram-Peren road project

Transport minister Khashim Vashum on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction of the Maram-Peren section of NH-129A to oversee work progress and find out the feasibility for MST bus services to connect the neighbouring states, Manipur and Nagaland.
During the inspection, minister Khashim was accompanied by Mao MLA Losii Dikho and officials of the Transport Department, and also representatives of NHIDCL and construction agencies.
It is learnt that the government of Manipur is taking up construction of the Maram-Peren Road as an alternative to NH-39 so as to connect the two neighbouring states.
When completed, the roadway is expected to ease connectivity and communication problems for the people of the two neighbouring states.
The construction comprises I, II & III packages.
While inspecting the on going construction work, minister Khashim along with MLA Dikho took stock of the progress made so far.
They also discussed the possibility of starting MST bus services on this route at the earliest with the work nearing completion.
They were briefed about the work done so far and the challenges faced by the contractor.
They were also informed that the construction work is progressing as per schedule.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the 2nd and 3rd packages of the construction are expected to be completed by February, 2023 and March, 2024 respectively.
Certain dispute that cropped up along the stretch of 1st part of the package has also been resolved by NHIDCL and construction agency to pave the way for early completion of the work.
