Imphal, January 15 2023:
JN Manipur Dance Academy ex-director Dilip Mayengbam has stated that students still need guidance in their preferred choice of career, whether it may in academics, sports or cultural field.
He made the statement while speaking as chief guest of the valedictory function of a 15-day training course on Manipuri Dance and Bharatnatyam for young children organised by Cosmopolitan Cultural Institute at the auditorium of the Academy, here, on Sunday.
Dilip continued that educational institutions along with parents/guardians need to change the previous ways of imparting knowledge and instead analyse how to best help the students in choosing their preferred choices.
He then emphasised that teaching young children about the society through dramas or plays would be helpful in developing their minds, in addition to helping to preserve the art forms for the future generations.
Presiding over the function, IN Manipur Dance Academy director P Bilash recounted the establishment of Cosmopolitan Cultural Institute in 2007, while lauding the contributions of theatre personality Naba Wareppa and others in preserving and promoting the rich art forms of the state.
The closing function was also attended by Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum (CWAF) president Budha Chingtham as guest of honour.
As part of the function, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Naba Wareppa (Padmashree), followed by presentation of dance performances by the trainees.
