Security measures beefed up ahead of R-Day

Imphal, January 15 2023:
Ahead of the upcoming Republic Day celebration on January 26, strict security measures have been taken up by Manipur Police to prevent any untoward incidents.
As part of the measures, a team of Imphal West district police commandos carried out search operation in Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai area from 6.30 am to 8.15 am on Sunday.
In all, 70 houses were searched and 160 people including six UGs on bail were verified one-by-one.
However, there were no reports of any arrests made, a police report conveyed.
Another police report informed that search operations were carried out in the various areas of the valley in Imphal East and West districts on Sunday.
Former members of banned outfits were also summoned for questioning but no arrests were made.
Amidst this, in connecting with the gun attack at the residence of advocate N Ajit on Saturday night, a search operation was carried out in the surrounding areas.
Although some suspected people were picked up for questioning, no one has been formally arrested.
During the operation, the police called up 6 former insurgents for questioning but they could not provide any information on the possibility of the attack and as such, were not detained.
The report further conveyed that the police department is staying vigilant to prevent any anti-social elements from trying to disturb the peace and security, especially in Imphal and its surrounding areas.
