Thoubal, January 15 2023:
Education Minister Th Basantakumar has asserted that it is essential for him to interact with students and understand their likes and dislikes in order to realise the objective of reforming the State's education sector.
He was speaking as chief guest at the silver jubilee celebration of New Public Higher Secondary School, Khangabok.
"Although I would like to skip most functions and focus on improving the education sector, I feel obliged to attend functions participated by students", he said.
Saying that students are the future pillars of the State and the Nation, Basantakumar appealed to all sections of the society to share the responsibility of making all students successful by giving them good education and advice.
It is a matter of pride that New Public Higher Secondary School has produced many successful doctors and engineers in the last 25 years.
He then exuded confidence that the school would continue to produce many successful men and women who would become assets of the State, the country and the whole world.
MLA Okram Surjakumar who attended the silver jubilee celebration as president noted that private schools have been taking key roles in the development of a State/Nation.
Even though the Government has been working to provide free education, not all students can be accommodated in Government schools.
As such, private schools have been shouldering the responsibility of giving formal education to a large section of students, Surjakumar said.
He then emphasised on the need for schools to focus on quality rather than quantity.
Giving quality education to young children demands collective efforts of teachers, parents and all stakeholders, he said.
Fuelled by the race for getting higher marks, instances of using unfair means in examinations are also rising in the State.
It is rather unfortunate there have been many cases of question leakage too, he rued.
He then underscored the urgent need to check all such practices/incidents in the interest of the future generations.
Many meritorious students of the school were also feted at the silver jubilee celebration which was also attended by the school's governing body chairman M Rameshwor and secretary Dr Kh Jugindro.
